Jesus replied: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment…
What is so special about this verse? What is it really telling us and what does it really mean to love God with heart, soul and mind?
In short, heart expresses our ’emotions’, soul represents our ‘will’ and mind — obviously our logical thoughts which takes decision – our ‘mind’ !!!
So what? What is the role of these three in our devotion to our Lord? Continue Reading
Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you.
[1 Peter 4:12]
Believers or non-believers, all face challenges in their lives. What is the hope for a believing and a professing Christian to go through these pains, challenges, sufferings and hopelessness? Yes! We do have a hope! Jesus comforted his disciples by saying that in this world, you will have trials and tribulations, but be of good cheer, because I have overcome the world (John 16:33). Even if we go through the difficult situations of our lives, our God is with us. We have put our faith in a true and living God, who keeps his word when he says, I shall be with you till the ends of the ages. Continue Reading
For last couple of weeks, we are charged up with so many exciting things happening. Brother Anilkant from Mumbai visited us for a worship event – YESHU BHAKTI SANDHYA. Lovely man of God with humility and joy of the Lord in him and anointed with awesome gift of engaging people in worship using his music and singing talent. This was a time of learning and sheer excitement as we worshipped our Lord in joy with dancing and singing.
As he left, pastor uncle (Peter Kuruvilla) joined us and the blessings have continued to flow. We heard his testimony of coming in faith from Catholic background and then how God has trained him for his service during his youth through his submission and suffering. This was an encouragement to our young lives.
However, One thing what God was talking through both of them was – Make God your Lord in every way! Continue Reading
I had never seriously considered the reality of God nor my lack of relationship and responsibility to Him until September 1983 when I lay seriously ill on a hospital bed in Santa Fe, New Mexico. There, in an isolation room in St. Patrick’s Hospital, the doctor told me they had finally diagnosed my illness; the antibiotic I would have to take was known to be potentially lethal for some patients but there was no viable alternative.
I was shocked. I agreed to take the medicine but that night I could not sleep. Where will I go if I die now? For the first time in my life, I took an honest look at myself. And when I did so my conscience was troubled, because, whereas I had always perceived myself to be a good person, now I saw myself as one with something fundamentally wrong within. If there is a Heaven and if there is a Hell, I felt I would end up in Hell. Continue Reading
What about festivals? Can we not celebrate our religious festivals?
I feel this is a subjective question and must be dealt case by case. Instead of proposing a solution here, I would rather tell you the framework, base on which you can understand how we should deal with such situation.
Primarily I feel celebrate and not celebrate should not be our question. We must ask ourselves, why do we want to celebrate or why this festival is being celebrated. Once you see the reason behind it, probably you will automatically cease celebrating it without my explaining.
However, if you are genuinely looking for a solution, follow this principle –
“Refrain from all such activities which do not give glory to the true and living God.”
You may enjoy the fellowship with your family and other relatives though. Completely alienating ourselves from rest of the family, friends and society at large is not the teaching of the Bible and it does not make us good witness of His love too. Continue Reading
No. This is a myth. This is not true.
Bible does not endorse anything related to eating any particular food – vegetarian or non-vegetarian. My last statement about Prerna must answer this question already.
Paul explains in the Bible that eating or not eating anything does not matter because kingdom of God is not about eating or not eating some particular foods. He rather exhorts not to eat a particular food for the sake of a brother or sister of weaker faith who may stumble because of our eating of particular food. Continue Reading
