Why Idol worship | मूर्ति-पूजा क्यों

Idolatry does not find any support from Vedas. In chapter 32 of Yajurveda it has been said that God Supreme or Supreme Spirit has no ‘Pratima’ or material shape. He cannot be seen directly by anyone. His name is so great that only the Name is enough to invoke Him. He pervades all beings and all directions.

It is just an illusion that we need something to see before we believe in it. It is not necessary to SEE before we believe. How many of our age could ever say that we saw Abraham Lincon or Mahatma Gandhi? We don't have even a hint of doubt that they really did. We believe completely - without seeing them. How many of us have seen air? No one! Yet we believe that air is; because we can breathe. How many of us have really seen electricity flowing in the wires - yet none will touch the open wire - because we believe that electricity exists. We know it because we see the results of that electricity - running fan, working TV, cooling fridge, light in the room etc.

All we do in believing in air, electricity and personalities of the past is - trusting in the word(s) of those who have seen it or experienced it or known it by experimentation. We do it by FAITH. We do many things in our lives by faith, in fact, if I say ALL THINGS it would not be an exaggeration. We sit on chair and put our full load by faith that it would not break but it will take our full load, we take medicine trusting that it would cure our illness. We wait on a traffic signal for the light to turn green, and as soon as it happens, we move. What if we did not have faith that if our side is green, the other side would be red and therefore we can go ahead. If we did not have faith, we cannot drive.

The point is to say - we do all things in life by faith, not by seeing but by believing. We know that aspirin does cure headache therefore we take a pill whenever we have a headache, never testing the ingrediants or experimenting its results. We believe and we do. This is what Bible also says - ...righteous shall live by faith... and also ... we live by faith, not by sight. Though it is not normally understood this way; rather you will normally hear - seeing is believing. May be true in some cases, but not with God. God is a matter of faith.

Now many would ask - who has seen God, or there is not absolute truth (called God) but what we do good is good and will take us to God. Though I would love to write something in detail later about this statement, but here in short I would say this.

What if at the traffic signal, everyone wanted to do what he thinks good. So for example, a person is in hurry (to go to the hospital to see his dying mother or delivering wife, or he is late for his exam, or this lady lost her purse in the shop and wants to reach there before someone picks it up..or whatever), should he or she jump the red light because this is what is right for her momentarily to save time. I believe your answer is NO! Yes, because doing so, she would be endangering herself as well as others, who are driving (by faith) that on green light, its their turn and no-one would come from the red-light side. Yes, we need a common law to follow which could not be twisted, or stretched, or modified. It is ONE, it is UNIVERSAL, it must be followed by ALL.

This is the law of God - the law of Love, demonstrated by God by sending his son, Jesus Christ. Bible says - For God so loved the world (not any particular caste, creed or religion) that he gave his only begotton Son, so that whomsoever (no restrictions of age, sex or religion again) believes in him, shall not perish (in his or her sins) but have everlasting life (in heaven). Contrary to what I had learnt and many of us believe that God comes to destroy the sinners and save the righteous, Bible says that no-one is righteous because all have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God, therefore, God did not send his Son to condemn the world (because we are already condemned and thrashed by our conscience everyday) but to save (forgive and restore them) the world.

This is the one law, we need to believe and follow. All different laws according to our own interpretations and luxury cannot help us in solving the problem of sin. This is similar to the traffic signal example given earlier and we must follow the common law only, so that we may live a peaceful (accident-free, tension-free, sin-free, guilt-free) and blessed (forgiveness, joy, peace, success, prosperity, hope, guided, loved, full of grace...) life on this earth and in heaven forever.

I will write more on the topic of salvation (moksha) and others, but here to conclude, I must say - we may have been doing a lot earlier - garlanding different gods, worshipping them in whatever way it pleases us but now let us try to see what is the way it pleases God. Get rid of your desire to SEE AND BELIEVE, rather put your trust in your Creator God, invite him to reveal his glory to you and he will surely do it. He loves you, God loves you. मूर्ति-पूजा क्यों - क्या इससे ही ईश्वर को पाया जा सकता है?

मेरे विचार में, यह एक धारणा मात्र है, और इसमें कहीं कोई तथ्य नहीं है - कि बिना देखे हम किसी बात में विश्वास नहीं कर सकते। मैं ऐसा नहीं मानता। ऐसा नहीं है कि मैं जिद्दी हूँ, बल्कि इसलिये क्योंकि इस बात पर मैंने विचार करके देखा है। यजुर्वेद के 32 अध्याय में इस प्रकार की बात लिखी है कि परम ईश्वर या परमात्मा की न तो कोई प्रतिमा है और न ही कोई दुनियावी स्वरूप (सांसारिक रूप जिसे देखा जा सके)। उसे कोई भी अपनी शारीरिक आँखों से नहीं देख सकता। उसका नाम ही इतना ऊँचा तथा शक्तिशाली है उसे पुकारना भर ही काफी है, तौभी हममें से कितने ही उसे देखने की लालसा रखते हैं, और जब नहीं देख पाते तो अपनी कल्पना से उसके सांसारिक रूप की एक रचना कर लेते हैं। वो तो सब जगह विद्यमान है।

मैं इस बात को नहीं मानता कि हमें किसी भी बात में विश्वास करने के लिये उसे देखना ज़रूरी है। मेरी उम्र 32 वर्ष है, और मैं पूछना चाहता हूँ (जो मेरी उम्र के हैं - या बड़े भी), हम में से कितनों ने महात्मा गांधी और अब्राहम लिंकन के अस्तित्व पर अविश्वास किया है। मेरे ख्याल से किसी ने भी नहीं। हमने उनमें से किसी को नहीं देखा, परंतु हम बड़ी आसानी से मानते हैं कि वे मौजूद थे। हम हवा को नहीं देखते पर मान लेते हैं कि हवा है। हमने तार में बहती बिजली को कभी नहीं देखा परंतु नंगे तार पर हम हाथ नहीं रखते, क्योंकि हमने उसके प्रभाव को देखा है - हम जानते हैं कि पंखा चलता है, टीवी चलता है, बल्ब जलता है इसका मतलब बिजली है। तो जब ऋतुएं बदलती है, सूरज और समस्त ग्रह अपने नियत समय में अपने नियत मार्गों में चलते हैं, जब एक औरत के गर्भ में बच्चा बढ़ता जाता है, जब समुद्र की सीमायें बंधी रहती हैं और उसका पानी शहर की सीमाओं में नहीं घुसता, हम सांस लेते हैं, हमारे दिल की धड़कनें निरंतर चलती रहती हैं, क्या ये काम हमें यह बताने के लिये काफी नहीं है कि इस सबके पीछे एक शक्तिशाली तथा बुद्धीमान ईश्वर है। हमें और क्या देखने की ज़रूरत है?

हम जो भी करते हैं, विश्वास के द्वारा ही करते है। हम बहुत से (या ज्यादातर) काम विश्वास से ही करते हैं। हम कुर्सी पर पूरा वज़न डाल के बेठते हैं तब यह विश्वास हमारे मन में होता है कि यह कुर्सी हमारा वज़न संभाल सकती है, टूटेगी नहीं। यदि ऐसा न होता (जिस कुर्सी पर आपको भरोसा नहीं होता) तो आप कैसे उस कुर्सी पर बेठते? जब हम गाड़ी चलाते हैं तो वो भी हम विश्वास से करते हैं। ट्रैफिक सिग्नल पर हरी बत्ती होते ही हम चल पड़ते हैं क्योंकि हमें विश्वास होता है कि दूसरी तरफ लाल बत्ती है और वहाँ से कोई नहीं आयेगा। यदि ऐसा न होता तो क्या हम गाड़ी चला पाते?

मेरे कहने का तात्पर्य बस इतना ही है कि जब हम जीवन की सभी बातें जैसे बैंक में पैसा जमा करना, गैस जलाकर खाना बनाना, लिफ्ट में बैठकर ऊपर जाना, ट्रेन में बैठकर नियत जगह के लिये यात्रा करना, फोन पर बात करना इत्यादि सभी बातें विश्वास से ही करते हैं। यदि हम विश्वास न करें तो यह सब संभव नहीं है, इसी प्रकार ईश्वर में विश्वास करने के लिये विश्वास ही ज़रूरी है, देखना नहीं।

कुछ लोग ईश्वर को नहीं मानते और कहते हैं कि किसने ईश्वर को देखा है, ऐसा कोई परमसत्य नहीं है, हम जो सही करते हैं वो ही सही है, उसी से ईश्वर को पाया जा सकता है, इत्यादि। ऐसे कई सवालों के जवाब मैं भविष्य में देने की कोशिश करूँगा, परंतु यहाँ छोटे शब्दों में मैं इतना कहना चाहता हूँ, कि यदि ट्रेफिक सिग्नल पर खड़े हुए हम वो ही करने लगें जो हमें ठीक लगता है तो सोचिये यातायात का क्या हाल होगा। जिसे जल्दी है वो जल्दी जायेगा और हमें कुछ पता नहीं चलेगा कि कब हमें चलना चाहिये ताकि कोई हमें टक्कर न मार दे। इस बात के लिये तो हम एक ऐसे नियम को चाहते हैं जिसे सभी पालन करें ताकि सब कुछ सुचारू रूप से चले, तो फिर ईश्वर के बारे में ऐसा करने के लिये हिचक क्यों?

हमें परमात्मा के एक ही नियम की आवश्यकता है। उसका प्रेम का नियम, जिसके कारण उसने मानव रूप में अवतार लिया ताकि हमें हमारे पापों से छुड़ा ले। पवित्र शास्त्र में लिखा है कि परमेश्वर ने सारे जगत से (किसी जाति अथवा धर्म विशेष से नहीं)ऐसा प्रेम रखा कि अपना इकलौता पुत्र (यीशु मसीह) दे दिया ताकि जो कोई (फिर से कोई बंधन नहीं है)उस पर विश्वास करे वो नाश (नर्क) न हो परंतु अनंत जीवन (स्वर्ग) पाये। जैसा मैंने बचपन से सीखा था और हममें से कई अब भी विश्वास करते हैं कि यदि ईश्वर धर्मियों को बचाने और पापियों का नाश करने आता है तो हमारा तो नाश ही हो जाता क्योंकि कोई भी धर्मी नहीं है (सबने पाप किया है और परमेश्वर की महिमा से रहित हैं), इसलिये परमेश्वर ने धर्मियों को बचाने के लिये नहीं अपितु उनसे प्रेम कर उन्हें बचाने के लिये अपने पुत्र को इस दुनिया में भेजा ताकि वो हमारे पापों का निवारण करे। ऐसा करने के लिये प्रभु यीशु ने हमें मिलने वाली सारी कोड़ो की सज़ा को अपने ऊपर ले लिया और अपना जीवन तक न्योछावर कर दिया। परंतु फिर वो तीसरे दिन जी उठे (क्योंकि ईश्वर को कोई नहीं मार सकता - मृत्यु उन पर बंधन नहीं रख सकती)और जीवित स्वर्ग में उठा लिये गये और अब वो जीवित ईश्वर हमारी सुधि लेता है और हमारी प्रार्थनाओं को सुनता है।

उस निराकार ईश्वर के प्रेम व उसके (अपने पुत्र-स्वरूप) बलिदान पर विश्वास करें, ताकि हमारा मानवीय जीवन (जैसा अस्तव्यस्त है) बदल जाये और हमारी आत्मिक ज़रूरतें पूरी हों और हमारा जीवन सुचारू रूप से चले। यह जीवन कोई 60-80 या 100 साल का नहीं है अपितु शाश्वत जीवन है क्योंकि आत्मा नहीं मरती और वो या तो नर्क में रहती है जहाँ तड़पन है, अशांति है आदि अथवा मोक्ष प्राप्ति कर स्वर्ग में निवास करती है। यह जीवन यहीं से शुरू होता है और इसका निर्णय आपके हाथों में है। अपने पापों का निवारण स्वयं आपके हाथों में है। पापों से मुक्ति मिलने के बाद ही सुख, शांति, पाप-क्षमा, आनंद, सफलता, आशा, प्रेम, तथा ईश्वर-कृपा से भरा आपका हो सकता है।

जल्द ही इस बारे में मैं और लिखूंगा, कि उद्धार (मोक्ष) क्या होता है और कैसे मिल सकता है। बस अभी इतना ही, कि अपने देखने और विश्वास करने के मोह से निकलकर उस निराकार ईश्वर को पुकारना शुरू करें, उसको अपने जीवन में आमंत्रित करें, वो ज़रूर ही आपके पास आयेगा। परम-ईश्वर आपसे प्रेम करता है।
